Acupuncture for Addictions Debbie Stevens, the PSUPP counselor for the Union Hospital Maternal Health Clinic has recently been licensed to provide the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) 5 point ear acupuncture protocol as well as acupressure with beads for addictions including nicotine and other drugs. The National Institutes of Health concluded in 1997 that there was sufficient evidence to support acupuncture therapy including treatment for addictions. A study in the American Journal of Public Health, Oct 2002, showed that the combination of acupuncture and smoking cessation group education demonstrated almost twice the cessation rate as education and sham acupuncture. There are currently several thousand NADA (www.acudetox.com) trained practitioners worldwide. Debbie Stevens, LMFT, CADACII, ADS Kathleen A.
