Medical Rehabilitation Center

Behavioral Healthcare/Neuropsychology

The psychologist on a rehab unit is specially trained in medical issues and neuropsychology. After a disabling illness or injury, there may be disruptions in cognition (thinking), emotions and behavior. The psychologist is available to help you and your family recognize your strengths and deficits, and adjust as necessary to new ways of thinking about or doing things. Individual and family therapies are available.

The psychologist:

  • may provide specialized neuropsychological testing if cognitive (thinking) problems are present.
  • will assess your cognitive, emotional and behavioral condition and treat problems as necessary.
  • may provide direct education to you and your family.
  • will make recommendations to the team.
  • may provide other specialized services such as psychophysiological retraining and cognitive rehabilitation.
