Dietitian

Most patients admitted to Union Hospital Medical Rehabilitation have special nutritional needs. A dietitian is available to help you understand the basics and importance of good nutritional care. The dietitian evaluates each patient's individual eating habits, dietary restrictions or special nutritional problems. Nutritional counseling is available for patients on special diets. Following the dietitian's recommendations is very important for your health and recovery.

Family and friends are asked not to give any food or drinks to patients without first checking with someone on staff. This is a precaution to ensure dietary recommendations are followed consistently.

Pharmacy

Since your admission to the hospital, your doctor may have prescribed new medications or changed your previous medications. A registered pharmacist is a member of the rehabilitation team. The pharmacist will arrange to meet with you and/or your family when needed.

Some specific things the pharmacist does are:

  • assists the physician with evaluating your medications for your specific medical condition,
  • assists with teaching you about your medications and the proper way of taking them, and
  • monitors for any drug or food interactions.
